Austin, Texas -- Oklahoma State's bid to upset fifth-ranked Texas on its home field fell just short as the Cowgirl lost to the Longhorns 3-2 here Friday evening before 650 fans at McCombs Field.

OSU scored first, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the second. Amy Graham led off with on a walk, but was thrown out at second on a fielder's choice by Tarah Ettinger. Gessenia DeLaCruz followed with a base hit to right field, and with two outs, scored on a base hit by Shelby Davis.

Texas took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the third. With one out, Cowgirl pitcher Kat Espinosa issued two walks and hit a batter, loading the bases. Two runs scored on a base hit by Nadia Taylor, and a third scored on a double by Karina Scott. Espinosa forced Torie Schmidt to fly out, and struck out Mandy Ogle to end the frame.

Oklahoma State cut the lead in half in the fifth inning, with Davis leading off with a base hit. With one out, Tamara Brown doubled to left center, putting runners at second and third. Davis scored on a single by Julie Ward, making the score 3-2 Texas. Blaire Luna came on in relief of starter Rachel Fox, and forced a pair of pop ups to end the threat.

The Cowgirls tried to score again in both the sixth and seventh innings. DeLaCruz walked with one out, and Ari Morrison reached on a fielding error by UT's Lexy Bennett. Davis fouled out and Kelsey Anchors struck out to end the inning. Ward's double with one out in the seventh started a rally, but Luna sat down the next two batters to end the game and pick up her second save of the season.

Oklahoma State (22-17 overall, 5-7 Big 12) and Texas (36-6, 10-4) will continue the three-game series on Saturday at 1 pm.
