LUBBOCK, Texas - Despite shooting 51 percent from the floor, Oklahoma State's women's basketball team could not overcome 23 turnovers on Wednesday night en route to a 61-53 loss to Texas Tech in front of 6,476 fans inside United Spirit Arena.
The Cowgirls fell to 19-8 overall and 8-8 in Big 12 play with the loss. The Lady Raiders improved to 21-7 and 11-5 on the season.
OSU raced out to a 16-6 lead through the game's first seven minutes, but Tech answered with a 15-2 run over the next five minutes and never looked back. The Lady Raiders extended to a 13-point margin with 2:37 remaining before the Cowgirls cut the deficit to 35-27 at the break.
In the second half, the Cowgirls got within four on two occasions in the final three minutes, but could get no closer as the Lady Raiders hit all six of their free throws in the final minute.
Tech took advantage of OSU's miscues, scoring 21 points off Cowgirl turnovers and won the rebounding battle by a 35-29 count, including 19 at the offensive end.
Chynna Brown led all scorers with 22 points while OSU freshman Brittney Martin led the Cowgirls with 13 points.
Junior Kendra Suttles and senior Toni Young also finished in double figures, scoring 11 and 10 points, respectively.
OSU will close out its home slate on Saturday at 11 a.m. when Texas comes to town.
