Cowboy Tennis Drops Match To No. 16 Texas

Oklahoma State's men's tennis team fell to 0-2 in Big 12 play after a 7-0 defeat to No. 16 Texas on Sunday at the DeBois Tennis Complex.
OSU (11-10) challenged Texas with tight doubles matches and two third-set-tiebreakers in singles play, but was unable to break through the Longhorns' strong individual play.
Rifat Biktyakov and Oleksiy Arovin opened up the match with their second consecutive doubles victory, defeating Nick Naumann and Lloyd Glasspool, 8-5. The 70th-ranked pair of Richard Del Nunzio and Denys Pume struggled against Texas' No. 1 squad, however, and Chris Haworth and Brady Bohrnstedt fell in a close match that gave the Longhorns the doubles point.
Del Nunzio rode a strong second set comeback against No. 108 Sudanwa Sitaram into a third-set-tiebreaker, but the freshman was unable to pull off the upset. Pume also battled his way into a tiebreaker, but No. 85 Daniel Whitehead took the match with a 10-5 tiebreaker victory.
The Cowboys will hit the road next weekend to take on No. 38 Texas Tech on April 12 and the 15th-ranked Baylor Bears on April 14 before returning home on the 18th for the squad's home finale against Oral Roberts.
