STILLWATER, Okla. -
The No. 15 Oklahoma State men's tennis team recovered from Friday's loss to No. 21 Wake Forest by throttling New Orleans, 7-0, and Oral Roberts, 4-0, on Saturday at the Greenwood Tennis Center.
The Cowboys (13-2) were nearly perfect in the twin bill, losing only one set in singles play over the course of both matches. The set of shutouts also marked the second time this year that OSU has swept both opponents of a doubleheader after blanking Southern Illinois and South Dakota State in its first two matches of the season.
After losing the doubles point in three of the last four matches, OSU's primary doubles teams left no room for error on Saturday. Ferrigno/Gerch clinched the day's first doubles point with an 8-3 victory at No. 2, while Kadhe/Sude dominated the No. 1 spot against Oral Roberts' Mechali/Busby, only allowing dropping two games to the pair of Golden Eagles.
Chris Haworth and Brady Bohrnstedt lit up the courts in both matches, as the Cowboy tandem defeated New Orleans' Silva/Applegren, 8-2, and took down Oral Roberts' Allen/Saletovic, 8-2. The duo's pair of wins on Saturday improved its career record to 11-3 after compiling an 8-2 mark in 2013.
Eight different Cowboys collected singles victories on the day in a performance highlighted by Lucas Gerch's tenth win of 2014, Nathan Roper's first collegiate win and Arjun Kadhe's 16-game winning streak. The freshman from Pune, India, defeated Luis Albuquerque in the opener, 6-0, 6-0, and ran out to a 4-0 first-set lead over Oral Roberts' Amar Saletovic before eventually finalizing a 6-1, 6-2 triumph.
Haworth and Jakob Sude avenged individual losses against Wake Forest with straight set successes on Saturday. Sude breezed by New Orleans' Rui Silva, 6-3, 6-2, and Haworth overpowered ORU's Fabian Zierleyn, 6-2, 6-4.
In the only match of the doubleheader that saw a Cowboy lose a set, Nicolai Ferrigno fought back from a first-set deficit to win a 10-7 super tiebreaker and keep the Pokes perfect in singles play on the day.
Oklahoma State will close out its five-match homestand on Thursday when it hosts Nebraska-Omaha and Lamar in the team's third doubleheader of the year. Those matches will begin at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m., respectively.
