Cowboy Tennis Sweeps in Sunday Doubleheader

STILLWATER- Oklahoma State's men's tennis team continued its spring season on Sunday with a pair of 4-0 victories over SMU and in-state foe Oral Roberts at the Michael and Anne Greenwood Tennis Center.
Sunday's victories pushed the 10th-ranked Cowboys to a 12-3 record on the season and included their 22nd straight victory over ORU, the second longest win streak against a team in program history behind their 23-game win streak against Missouri.
"It was a good day for the team to get some reps in with two very good teams coming to campus," coach Jay Udwadia said. "We just have to stay focused and take one doubles match and one singles match at a time. They stayed focused the whole day. When you play doubleheaders it's a lot about mental stamina, and also physically, and I thought we did a great job of performing well in both."
OSU would complete a sweep of doubles action against SMU as No. 38 Julian Cash and Luke Hammond recorded the first doubles win of the day, defeating Tom Vaise and Roy Jan-Simon Vbrsky, 6-1 on court one.
Artur Dubinski and Jurence Mendoza, secured the doubles point for the Cowboys defeating Charles Nettlefold and Roberto Rosales of SMU, 6-2.
In singles action against SMU, Hammond was the first Cowboy to tack on another point for his team, as the Birmingham, United Kingdom native posted a decisive 6-3, 6-2 victory over Charles Nettlefold.
Just seconds later, Leftherios Theodorou racked up another point for the Cowboys defeating Gardiner Perotti, 6-2, 6-4.
Cash locked up the Oklahoma State victory as he defeated Jan-Simon Vbrsky, 6-4, 6-1. The win marked the 10th of the season for the senior.
In the second half of Saturday's doubleheader, OSU secured its second sweep of the day over Oral Roberts.
The Cowboys excelled in doubles action for the second time on Saturday as the duo of Hammond and Brady Draheim cruised to a 6-1 victory over ORU's Andrew Guymon and Eddy Leardini.
OSU clinched the doubles point for the second time in as many matches when Theodorou and Mathieu Scaglia topped Alvaro Santamaria and Kenneth Boykin, 6-2.
The Cowboys continued to assert themselves in the ensuing singles action, led by Theodorou at the No. 6 position. Theodorou was the first Cowboy to secure victory in singles play, and after the he polished off his straight-set victory over ORU's Andrew Guymon, 6-1, 6-1.
Just moments after Theodorou's match, Cash, capped off an impressive 6-2, 6-0 effort against Boykin.
Cash's triumph was quickly followed by a Mendoza win on court four as he took down Marcello Moreira, 6-2, 6-3.
OSU will be back in action this Thursday as the Cowboys travel to La Jolla, California, to face Pepperdine in a dual match at 2 p.m. (PST). The Cowboys will continue action in La Jolla that weekend as they defend their title at the prestigious Pacific Coast Doubles Tournament.
