Cowboys Take Down Tulane to Remain Undefeated
February 04, 2018 | Cowboy Tennis
STILLWATER – The Cowboys earned another nail-biting victory Sunday as they defeated No. 20 Tulane, 4-3 at the Michael and Anne Greenwood Tennis Center. The Cowboys now post a perfect 7-0 record on the season.
Mathieu Scaglia was once again the Cowboy who clinched the victory for the Pokes has he rallied back after losing the first set in tiebreak, 6-7 (4-7), 6-3, 6-3.
"I was really happy with Scaglia, the way he finished," Coach Jay Udwadia said. "He finished hitting out and going for his shots and that's something I was proud of him for doing. You saw the last couple points, he was just nailing some shots and playing with no fear."
Scaglia also helped the Cowboys take the doubles point on Sunday where he played alongside Brady Draheim. The tandem defeated No. 47 Tim Ruetzel and Hamish Stewart of Tulane, 6-2.
Julian Cash and Luke Hammond clinched the doubles point for the Cowboys on court one as they shutout Constantin Schmitz and Ewan Moore, 6-0.
Artur Dubinski was the first to strike as he defeated No. 112 Ewan Moore in dominating fashion, 6-2, 6-2. This put the Cowboys up 2-0.
Next to score for the Cowboys was Brady Draheim who defeated Ruetzel in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. This put the Cowboys up 3-1 after Hammond fell to No. 107 Tyler Schick.
The next two points would go to Tulane as both Tristan Meraut and Cash fell to their opponents.
With the match tied 3-3, it all came down to Scaglia on court four who would, for the second match in a row, secure the win for the Cowboys in a tight race.
"You have to love to compete because there are so many good teams coming in here and anything can happen," Udwadia said. "When we have those nail biters and come through, it just gives us even more confidence."
The Cowboys are back in action at the Greenwood Tennis Center Feb. 9, as they take on Northwestern at 5 p.m.
