Cowboys Cruise Past Wichita State, Extends Winning Streak to Seven

STILLWATER – In its first outdoor home match of the season, the No. 23 Oklahoma State men's tennis team defeated Wichita State 7-0 on Sunday at the Greenwood Tennis Center.
With the win, the Pokes improved to 11-2 overall and 9-1 at home. It also improved its all-time record against the Shockers to 40-17 and extended the Cowboys' series winning streak to 13.
In their first doubles match as partners, Issac Becroft and Carl Roothman took down Shockers Vanja Hodzic and Alejandro Jacome, 6-2. With the win, Becroft and Roothman became the eighth doubles pairing to tally a win this season.
Cowboys Tyler Zink and Alex Garcia took the featured court to clinch the doubles point in a back-and-fourth match against Richey King and Misha Kvantalian, 6-4. The duo moved to 7-1 on the year.
With the doubles point secured, Goran Zgola and Erik Schiessl's match against Wichita State's Ziwen Ju and Marcelo Sepulveda went unfinished at 4-4.
OSU kept the momentum going in singles play, claiming all six first sets and winning five matches in straight sets.
No. 15 Zink flew past Jacome, 6-3, 6-3. Minutes later, Cowboy Francisco Pini decisively defeated Luke Bracks, 6-1, 6-1, growing the lead to 3-0. The win improved Pini's winning streak to three, all in straight sets.
OSU's Schiessl remains undefeated in a definitive win against Sepulveda, 6-2, 6-3. The win clinched the match moving the score to 4-0. The freshman improved to 8-0 on the year.
Cowboys Zgola and Becroft took care of business winning both their matches in straight sets. Zgola remained perfect in singles action, while Becroft grew his winning streak to 10.
Garcia, the No. 49 singles player in the country won a gritty match against Misha Kvantaliani, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(6). The win gave the Cowboys a clean sweep over Wichita State and moved Garcia's winning streak to three.
The Pokes will look to continue their seven-match winning streak as they take on Memphis at 3 p.m. CT on Saturday at the Greenwood Tennis Center.
