No. 24 Cowgirls Battle Past Miami

George Town, GRAND CAYMAN – Oklahoma State's women's basketball team rallied during the second half and held on to defeat Miami, 87-84, during its second game at the Cayman Island Classic at Gray Gymnasium.
The No. 24 Cowgirls improved to 8-1 on the year with the win.
Miami grabbed an early 8-2 lead before OSU used a 14-2 run to move in front halfway through the first period. The Cowgirls would take a 21-17 lead through the first 10 minutes.
With the score tied at 24, Miami would score the next seven before extending their advantage to 10 with two minutes remaining in the half. The Hurricanes drilled the final jumper of the half to lead 42-31 at the break.Â
Miami would push the margin to 14 on a 3-pointer to start the third before OSU used an 8-0 burst to get within six.
OSU would move back in front with 4:55 to go in the frame on a jumper by Jadyn Wooten, giving the Cowgirls a 47-46 lead. The two teams knotted the score three times during the final minutes of the quarter before Miami once again scored the final basket of the period to lead 61-60 through three periods.
With seven minutes remaining, Miami held a four-point advantage before Amari Whiting hit a 3-pointer and Wooten drilled another jumper to put OSU in front. The two teams traded the lead six times over the next two minutes before a pair of Whiting free throws and a 3-pointer from Haleigh Timmer gave OSU an 82-76 lead with 2:46 to go.
Miami got within three with 27 seconds left and Timmer hit a pair from the free throw line with 18 seconds left to make it 87-84. The Hurricanes had one final 3-point attempt hit the front of the rim as time expired to seal the outcome.
Wooten scored a career-high 26 points, while Whiting added 23 and eight assists. Timmer added 17 for OSU.
