March 19, 2025 | Cowgirl Basketball
STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma State's women's basketball team has added Big 12 veteran Amari Whiting to its backcourt it was announced today by Cowgirl head coach Jacie Hoyt.
A native of Boise, Idaho, Whiting spent the past two seasons at BYU, where she started all 63 games during her time in Provo.
"Amari is the perfect fit for us in every way possible and we are thrilled to have her and her family on board. Her intangibles are special! She is a coach's kid, so she has a deeper understanding of the game than most. She is gritty and she is hungry to win. Offensively, she will fit seamlessly into our ballscreen motion. She will also allow us to continue to play an up-tempo style because she can play both on and off the ball," Hoyt said.
"I believe she is one of the best on-ball defenders in the Big 12, who will be a great leader for us and take us to another level defensively."
A 5-10 guard, Whiting earned Big 12 Freshman of the Week honors in February of her first season. In BYU's win over No. 18 Baylor, Whiting scored 14 points to go with a career-high nine assists and eight rebounds. Whiting started all 33 games for the Cougars her freshman year, averaging 10.6 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game.
This past season, she was named to the 2024 Cancun Challenge Mayan Division All-Tournament Team. Whiting also scored a career-high 24 points on a 10-of-11 shooting effort against Kansas. She finished the year averaging 10.3 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.8 assists per outing.
During her prep career at Burley High School, Whiting was named the 2022 Idaho Gatorade Player of the Year and the 4A All-Idaho Player of the Year in 2021 and 2022. Additionally, she was the GB7 Conference Player of the Year in 2021 and 2022.
In 2022, Whiting led her squad to the 4A Idaho state title and was named the SBlive Idaho Player of the Year.
