LOS CABOS, Mexico – Oklahoma State's men's golf team opened play on Sunday afternoon with a 281 during the first round of action at the Cabo Collegiate to stand in second place at Twin Dolphin Club.
The Cowboys' 3-under par total was one of just two scores under par on the day at the par-71, 7,156-yard layout. Arizona State posted a 276 to lead the team race.
OSU's Preston Stout fired a 4-under 67 to share first place with ASU's Preston Summerhays. The Cowboy sophomore opened with three consecutive birdies before carding his first bogey of the day at the ninth. He would add birdies at the 13th and 15th for a second nine of 2-under 34. Stout would card sixth birdie of the day at the first to move to 5-under before posting bogeys at the second and fourth. He would bounce back with a birdie at the fifth, his final hole of the day.
A stroke back of his teammate and tied for third place was sophomore Ethan Fang, who carded four birdies on his way to a 3-under 68.
Sophomore Eric Lee signed for an even-par 71 to share 12th place.
After opening with a nine on the par-3 eighth hole, freshman Filip Fahlberg-Johnsson rallied with four birdies on the day to post a 4-over 75 and share 44th place.
Competing individually, junior John Wild posted a 76 to stand in a tie for 50th place.
Sophomore Gaven Lane posted a 77 to come in tied for 58th place.
The Cowboys will begin their second round tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. and will be grouped with Arizona State, Arkansas and Stanford.
