Cowgirl Softball sweeps in home opener
March 02, 2025 | Cowgirl Softball
STILLWATER, OKLA. – Two home runs, 17 hits and 18 runs propelled No. 15/16 Oklahoma State Softball to a pair of run-rule wins in its home opener, 9-1 over Drake and 9-0 over Tulsa, Sunday at Cowgirl Stadium.
The Cowgirls extended their winning streak to 10 games and improved to 14-4 overall with the two victories. Pitchers Katie Kutz and Ruby Meylan earned the wins in today's contests, combining for 12 strikeouts and scattering only two hits in 8.2 innings pitched.
Game One – Oklahoma State 9, Drake 1
Back-to-back home runs in the first inning from Karli Godwin and Micaela Wark set the tone for the Cowgirls' 9-1 win over the Bulldogs.
OSU held a 6-1 advantage through two innings and Kutz held Drake scoreless in four innings of relief to lock down the win.
Godwin, Wark and Tallen Edwards each went 2-for-3 with a home run and Megan Delgadillo scored three runs to lift the Cowgirls in a game that was never truly in doubt.
The Cowgirls threatened to end the game via run rule in the fifth inning, but left the bases loaded. Just one inning later, Edwards led things off with a home run. Later in the inning, a sacrifice fly from Godwin scored Delgadillo before Wark singled home Rosie Davis to clinch the victory.
Game Two – Oklahoma State 9, Tulsa 0
Similar to game one, the Cowgirls jumped out to an early lead and didn't look back during a 9-0 win over Tulsa. OSU scored one in the first and exploded for six runs in the second inning to put the game out of reach.
Pitcher Ruby Meylan allowed just one hit and struck out nine in 4.2 innings of work before Kathryn Ogg came on to record the final out.
A two-run single from Megan Bloodworth and a two-run double from Delgadillo were the centerpieces of the six-run second inning, which also included an RBI single from Davis and a run-scoring ground out from Wark.
With two runners in scoring position in the fourth, Tulsa committed a throwing error which allowed Delgadillo and Edwards to score and end the game via run rule.
The Cowgirls return to action at 6 p.m. Wednesday against North Texas in Denton. The game can be heard on the Varsity Network app.
