STILLWATER – One of the nation's most prolific three-point shooters will finish out his college basketball career at Oklahoma State.
Head coach Steve Lutz announced the signing of 6-foot-5 guard Anthony Roy.
The Oakland, Calif. native was the nation's leading scorer last season at Green Bay before suffering a season-ending foot injury in early December. In 11 games he averaged 25.7 points while knocking down 48 threes (4.4 per game) on 43.2% accuracy.
In 2023-24, Roy helped lead Langston University – an NAIA school located 20 miles southwest of Stillwater – to a national runner-up finish while earning first team All-American status.
Lutz said:
"Anthony is already familiar with Oklahoma from his time at Langston, and we're excited to welcome him back. He's a big, versatile guard who can play multiple positions. He was one of the nation's best scorers last season before injuring his foot, and he will thrive in our system and style of play."
Lutz and staff had a front-row seat for Roy's theatrics during the 2024-25 season opener in Gallagher-Iba Arena when he scored 27 points 7-of-13 three-point shooting against the Cowboys. It was the first of his nine 20-point performances.
Roy made 8-of-12 triples on the way to a career-high 35 points at Western Illinois (Nov. 13) and hit eight more in a 30-point showing at Ohio State (Nov. 25). He also topped the 30-point barrier against SIUE (34 on 14-of-15 free throw shooting), Evansville (31) and IU Indy (30 on 6-of-12 three-point shooting).
At Langston, Roy was a first team NAIA All-American and the Sooner Athletic Conference Player of the Year after leading Langston to the best season in program history. The Lions swept the conference's regular season and tournament titles on the way to a 35-2 finish.
Roy averaged 18.4 points and 4.8 rebounds and made 95 threes on 41.9% accuracy along with 146 of his 181 free throw attempts (.807) while sharing the backcourt with Cowboy guard Arturo Dean's older brother, Toru Dean.
Roy's collegiate career began at San Francisco (2020-21), where he appeared in eight games as a true freshman under current Florida head coach Todd Golden. Following a year at Wenatchee Valley College in Washington, Roy transferred to New Mexico State for the 2022-23 season and averaged 10.3 points on 39.7% three-point shooting.
The Oakland native is a 2020 graduate of Dublin High School. He averaged 18 points as a senior while leading his team to a league title and a North Coast Section Championship appearance. He was voted East Bay Athletic League MVP, First Team All-Bay Area and Sports Star Magazine's NorCal Player of the Year.
Roy is the second official spring signing for the Cowboys, joining Mississippi State transfer Kanye Clary.
