Bio
2024-25 (Junior):
Freaky fast guard is a terror in the open court… Led the nation in steals last year (104) at FIU and was the 2023 CUSA Defensive Player of the Year… Has two seasons of eligibility remaining.
Steve Lutz on Dean:
"Arturo is a great young man from a great family and has been well-coached along the way. He takes tremendous pride in his defense, which isn't often the case with young players. You don't get to 100+ steals by accident. That number is a product of hard work, outstanding physical tools and an unrelenting will to win. Cowboy fans are going to love his toughness and the energy that he brings to our team."
At FIU (2022-24):
Played his first two seasons at FIU in Conference USA… Paced the Panthers in points (13.4), rebounds (5.1), assists (4.0) and steals (3.35) during the 2023-24 season and earned Third Team All-CUSA recognition… Twice made the league’s all-defensive squad and was its defensive player of the year as a true freshman… In 2023-24 posted the ninth-highest steal percentage (6.44) in the 21 years that KenPom has collected data (roughly 1-in-15 opponent possessions ended with a Dean steal) … Set the school’s single-season steals record (104) and also established a new single-game mark with 10 in a Nov. 29, 2023 contest against FGCU… Recorded two-or-more thefts in 27 of his 31 games that year… Despite playing just two seasons, finished third on the program’s career steals chart (185)… Appeared in 63 games for FIU with 54 starts and totaled 793 points and 248 assists… Was CUSA Freshman of the Year and honorable mention all-conference in 2022-23 after averaging 11.7 points, 3.8 assists and 2.5 steals… Four-time CUSA Freshman of the Week… Led the league and ranked sixth nationally with 81 total steals (an FIU freshman record)… The rare player to post double-doubles with three different stat combos. In addition to his 19-point, 10-steal game against FGCU, had a 19-point, 12-rebound effort at Louisiana Tech (Feb. 17, 2024) and a 10-point, 10-assist line at Rice (Mar. 4, 2023).
Prep School:
Won the 2022 National Prep Championship during a post-grad season at Putnam Science Academy in Connecticut… Averaged 13.9 points, 4.0 assists and 3.1 steals per game for a team that finished 38-0.
