The Oklahoma State football team (0-0 overall; 0-0 Big 12) opens its 126th season when it hosts UT Martin (0-0 overall; 0-0 OVC-Big South) at 6:30 p.m. CT on Thursday, August 28, at Boone Pickens Stadium.

Orange Power VIP: Marilyn Middlebrook
A game day tradition at Oklahoma State is the Orange Power VIP. It is an individual or group recognized before kickoff who leads the stadium in the "Orange Power" chant. This week's Orange Power VIP is OSU Associate AD for Academic Affairs Marilyn Middlebrook, who has worked at OSU since 1983.

On the Air
The game will be streamed live on ESPN+ with James Westling and Leger Douzable on the call. It will also be carried live on the Cowboy Radio Network, with Dave Hunziker handling play-by-play, John Holcomb providing analysis and Robert Allen reporting from the sideline. Fans outside of the Cowboy Radio Network can listen to the OSU broadcast for free through The Varsity Network app.

Thursday Night Football
The matchup against UT Martin marks OSU's first Thursday game since it hosted Central Michigan to open the 2022 season. All About Openers
Thursday's game marks the ninth time in the past 10 years that Oklahoma State has opened the season in Stillwater. It also marks the 67th time OSU has opened its season at home. OSU's overall record in season openers is 79-40-6, while its overall record in home openers is 90-29-5 and its overall record in season openers at home is 56-5-5. Oklahoma State has won 29 consecutive home openers for the longest active streak in the nation and the longest such streak in school history. The Cowboys have won 49 of their past 55 home openers. When it comes to season openers overall, OSU has won each of its past 10 and 19 of its past 21. The 2025 season also marks the 15th time during Mike Gundy's tenure that the Cowboys have opened with a home game, and the Cowboys are undefeated in the previous 14. OSU has outscored opponents 932-320 in home openers during the Gundy era by an average score of 47-16. Gundy is 18-2 overall in season openers, with his only setbacks at No. 13 Georgia in 2007 and versus No. 1 Florida State in 2014.

10 Straight Season Opening Wins
Oklahoma State has won 10 straight season openers, the sixth-longest active streak in the FBS. The Cowboys have won 16 of their 17 season openers since 2008, one of five FBS teams to do so over that period (Air Force – 17, Alabama – 17, Ohio State – 17, USC – 16).

Thursday's game marks the first meeting between Oklahoma State and UT Martin. Coach Mike Gundy's record against FCS teams is 16-0. UT Martin coach Jason Simpson has not faced OSU as a head coach.

In the Rankings
The Oklahoma State football team is not ranked entering the 2025 season, but the Cowboys have been ranked at some point in every season from 2008-24. Through the 2024 season, Oklahoma State has been ranked in the top 15 of the Associated Press poll in 15 of the past 17 seasons and has reached the top 10 in 11 of those 17 years. Although the first College Football Playoff rankings won't be released until November, it's worth noting that OSU has been part of the CFP rankings in eight of the past 10 seasons entering 2025. The Cowboys have also been included in 43 of the all-time CFP Rankings, which ranks among the most appearances in the country. UT Martin is receiving votes in both the Stats Perform and AFCA preseason FCS polls.

Oklahoma State from a Distance
After a disappointing 2024 season, Oklahoma State aims to return to the standard it set over the past 20 years. Coach Mike Gundy brought in new coordinators on each side of the ball, and in turn an entirely new coaching staff on both offense and defense. Veteran coordinators Todd Grantham and Doug Meacham were tabbed to lead the defense and offense, respectively, and both have a long track record of success as coordinators at the highest level of college football. They help take charge of a team that lost more than 80% of its total starts and about half of its letterwinners from last season. The majority of the Cowboy roster is new, as 62 of the 114 players (54.4%) are playing their first season in Stillwater. With so many new coaches and new players, nearly every position battle was wide open entering the season. The shaping together of a team with so many new faces will have a big impact on how the year pans out. The stability holding it together is Gundy, who has proven for two decades that he knows what it takes to win.

Boone Pickens Stadium Named the Best in the Country
Oklahoma State's Boone Pickens Stadium is the best college football stadium in the country according to USA TODAY, which used reviews from Yelp, Tripadvisor and Google to compile college football stadium rankings for 2025. In more than 1,700 combined reviews between the three services, Boone Pickens Stadium has an average of 4.8 stars to edge out Kansas State's Bill Snyder Family Stadium and Alabama's Bryant-Denny Stadium for the top spot among the 136 Football Bowl Subdivision venues.
