Cowboys Earn Runner-Up Finish At Carmel Cup

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – A final-round rally by Oklahoma State's men's golf team came up just short on Sunday at the Carmel Cup as the Cowboys finished second at Spyglass Hill Golf Course.
The top-ranked Cowboys entered the final round of play 15 shots behind Vanderbilt before posting a 7-under 353 at the par-72, 6,975-yard layout to ultimately finish three shots off the pace of the Commodores.
OSU wrapped up the event with a 14-under total of 1,066. Arkansas and Oklahoma shared third place at 1,069.
With the finish, OSU saw its winning streak come to an end at five in a row, but has now finished first or second in 11 of its last 12 starts.
Junior Ethan Fang began the day in third place and just a shot out of the lead before closing with a 69 to finish at 205.
Fang and OU's Jase Summy, who squared off this summer in the title match at the Western Amateur, shared medalist honors, giving Fang his first career victory.
After recording his first birdie of the day at the fourth, Fang bogeyed the sixth. He bounced back with birdies at the seventh and eighth to go out in 2-under 34. After a birdie at the 10th, Fang bogeyed the 11th before moving back to 3-under for the day with his final birdie of the round at the 13th. He would close with five consecutive pars.
Junior Eric Lee earned a top 10 as well, posting his second consecutive 70 to stand at 211 and tied for ninth place.
Junior Preston Stout also carded his second 70 in a row and was a shot back at 212, earning sole possession of 12th place.
Junior Gaven Lane posted his low round of the event on Sunday, signing for a 71 to finish at 216 and tied for 19th place.
Senior John Wild posted a 73 to move into 32nd place at 222, while redshirt freshman Collin Bond's 73 moved him into a tie for 37th place at 224.
