Cowboys Rally To Win At Olympia Fields

OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. – Oklahoma State's men's golf team erased a 10-shot deficit during the final round of the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational on Sunday to earn its first victory of the season at Olympia Fields Country Club.
The Cowboys entered the day in third place and 10 shots behind Florida before firing the round of the day, a 5-under 275, to finish two shots clear of the field. OSU posted a 6-under total of 834 at the par-70, 7,353-yard layout, while Florida was second at 836 and Texas Tech was third at 837.
For OSU, the win was its first at the event since 2019 and their third overall. The Cowboys also won the event in 2007. Additionally, the win was the 49th for the program under the direction of head coach Alan Bratton.
Gaven Lane narrowly missed becoming OSU's fifth medalist at the tournament, coming in a stroke off the top spot held by Tech's Tim Wiedemeyer on the leaderboard to earn a runner-up finish.
Lane closed with an even-par 70 to finish at 5-under 205. The junior parred his opening 10 holes before posting his first birdie of the day at the 11th. He would double bogey the 13th for the lone blemish on his card before moving back to even with a birdie at the 16th. The finish marked his first top five since tying for third place last spring at the Mountaineer Invitational.
Joining Lane in the top 10 were juniors Ethan Fang and Eric Lee. Fang fired a closing 66 to move up 26 spots into the group at 1-under 209. Lee closed with his second consecutive 69 to get to his 209 total.
Junior Preston Stout signed for a 70 to finish at 212 and tied for 24th place.
Senior John Wild posted a 76 to finish at 224 and in 70th place.
