Cowgirl Soccer ties Arizona to earn a Big 12 point
October 02, 2026 | Cowgirl Soccer
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State battled Arizona to a 3-3 draw Friday night at Neal Patterson Stadium.
With the result, the Cowgirls are now 5-4-3 overall and 1-2-1 in Big 12 play; Arizona goes to 3-5-4 overall and 0-1-3 in the conference.
The final statistics saw OSU with a slim 17-16 advantage in shots, while Arizona held a 4-3 edge in corner kicks. OSU goalkeeper Avery Bass recorded the only three saves in the game.
OSU opened the scoring in the 19th minute when Arizona committed a handball in the box, setting up the Cowgirls for a penalty kick. Emmy Hedden took the attempt and shot it past the goalie for her second goal of the season.
The Wildcats responded just five minutes later with a goal by Mireya Stephenson, getting Arizona on the board and tying the game 1-1.
In the final minute of the first half, Emily Senatore took a long, left-footed shot past several Arizona defenders that found the back of the net, scoring her first goal of the season and putting OSU up by one going into halftime. Ellie Geoffroy picked up an assist on the play.
Less than three minutes into the second half, Arizona again equalized with Lily Boydstun sending a free kick from just outside the box past the wall of defenders and into the net to make the score 2-2.
The Cowgirls didn't lose the lead for long as, less than two minutes later, Sonora DeFini got her own piece of the ball on a header, scoring her fifth goal of the season. With the score, she passed her season goal total from a year ago and now leads OSU with five on the season.
OSU held the lead for the majority of the second half, and but a handball in the box off a free kick in the 87th minute gave Arizona one more chance to tie it up. Ella Weathersby took the penalty kick and converted to knot the score with just under three-and-a-half minutes remaining.
Up next for the Cowgirls is another Big 12 matchup at home against 14th-ranked Texas Tech Thursday.
