Iowa State (4-4 overall; 2-3 Big 12) led for most of the game, but Oklahoma State (5-3 overall; 3-2 Big 12) erased a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit to take a 49-48 lead with 53 seconds remaining. Wyatt Young scored the go-ahead touchdown for OSU, but was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct on the play, which forced the Cowboys to kick off from their own 20-yard line. After one offensive play – a 33-yard completion from Jaylen Raynor to Jamal Polite – the Cyclones were immediately in field goal range. Three rushes up the middle allowed Iowa State to run the clock down to two seconds remaining. Konrardy's 34-yard field goal with no time left won the game and set off a field rushing from Cyclone fans.
Iowa State scored 10 points on a pair of stolen possessions in the second quarter. The Cyclones recovered an onside kick and recovered a muffed punt. The onside kick recovery led to a touchdown and the muffed punt recovery led to a field goal. Those two recoveries made it so Oklahoma State had only one offensive possession in the second quarter.
Oklahoma State quarterback Drew Mestemaker completed 27-of-42 passes for 323 yards with five touchdowns against one interception. Mestemaker quarterbacked three touchdown drives in the fourth quarter, hitting Justin Bowick and Wyatt Young for touchdown passes and also spearheading a 12-play, 75-yard drive that resulted in a one-yard touchdown rush from Caleb Hawkins.
Including Saturday's performance, Mestemaker has thrown for at least 300 yards with multiple pass TDs in seven straight games to tie the longest single-season streak in Big 12 history (done five other times: 2003 B.J. Symons, 2007 & 2008 Graham Harrell, 2013 Bryce Petty, 2017 Will Grier).
Hawkins rushed 25 times for 194 yards and two touchdowns and caught six passes for 81 yards and a touchdown. He entered the game leading all Power 4 running backs with an average of 38.9 receiving yards per game. Hawkins scored on a 59-yard reception in the first quarter. It was his fourth reception of 20 yards or longer this season. That was the second-longest reception of the season for Oklahoma State, trailing only Hawkins' 66-yard touchdown reception against Houston. He added a 75-yard touchdown run in the third quarter to match Oklahoma State's longest rush of the season.
Receiver Justin Bowick had seven catches for 124 yards and two touchdowns. It was his third game with at least 100 receiving yards this season and the seventh such game of his career.
Cornerback LaDainian Fields intercepted a pass in the first quarter to bring his season total to five. It's the most interceptions in a season for an Oklahoma State player since Jason Taylor II had six in 2022.
The Cowboys return to action when they travel to Manhattan, Kansas, to face Kansas State at noon CT next Saturday.
