Cowgirls Run Past Utah, 73-55

STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's women's basketball team earned its second home win in three days, knocking off Utah, 73-55, on Monday afternoon.Â
OSU improved to 21-7 overall and 10-5 in conference play, while Utah dropped to 17-10 and 8-7 in the Big 12.Â
Utah got five points early before Haleigh Timmer answered with back-to-back layups to start a nine-point run in favor of the Cowgirls. Micah Gray had a layup and a 3-pointer with two minutes left in the quarter before the scoring went dormant until a Utah layup at the buzzer marked the end of the quarter.Â
The second quarter was low scoring with both teams fighting to make a shot before Jadyn Wooten got a mid-range shot to fall which sparked a 10-4 run in the middle of the quarter. The scoring slowed again as the Cowgirls only managed one more point in the final four minutes of the half. The Pokes went into halftime up 29-23, led by Timmer, who had 12 points as well as a pair of assists and rebounds.Â
Coming out of halftime, Achol Akot aided a 9-2 run in the first three and a half minutes of play in the third quarter. OSU would close out the quarter by going on a 12-1 run in the final four minutes led by Gray, who had six points during the run as well. The Pokes would build the lead to as many as 22 while holding the Utes to just eight points. OSU had a 53-31 lead going into the final quarter.Â
The Utes mounted a comeback as they went on a 17-6 run in the middle of the quarter, but the Cowgirls would once again pull away. Stailee Heard and Wooten stopped the run, and a Gray 3-pointer pushed the Cowgirls back to a 20-point lead.Â
Multiple milestones were reached in the game with Timmer getting her 1,500th career point on a driving layup and Gray getting her 1,700th career point on a 3-pointer.
Five Cowgirls finished in double digits with Gray leading the way with 17. Timmer had 15 points, seven rebounds and four assists.Â
The Pokes will be back in action on Saturday taking on West Virginia in Morgantown on Feb. 21, at 1:00 p.m. Â
