Timm sets program first as Cowgirl Softball run-rules Kansas City

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Jayelle Austin blasted a home run, Claire Timm hit a pair of triples and Preslee Downing surrendered only one run to power the No. 24/19 Oklahoma State softball team to a 12-1 run-rule victory over Kansas City in five innings at the River City Classic Thursday.
With the win, the Cowgirls improved to 7-4 overall. The Roos dipped to 4-5 overall.
After a scoreless first inning, OSU tallied three runs in the second, three runs in the third, three runs in the fourth and three runs in the fifth to run away with the game. The Cowgirls matched a season high with 11 hits in the contest and made the most of their scoring chances by going 8-for-16 with runners on base and 6-for-9 with runners in scoring position. Of the 13 Pokes to register an at-bat, eight had at least one hit.
Timm went 3-for-3 with two runs batted in and became the first player in program history to record multiple games in a career with two or more triples. She had a pair of triples in a game against Penn State last season. Other key contributors included Austin, who went 1-for-1 with a solo home run, two walks, a stolen base and three runs scored and Gabby Castillo, who went 2-for-3 with an RBI single and a stolen base. Amanda Hasler drove in a pair of runs with an RBI single in the second inning and a sacrifice fly in the third.
Downing (2-0) registered her second complete game of the season, allowing only three hits and striking out four in five innings of work. Brooke Seppi (0-2) took the loss for Kansas City.
The Cowgirls return to action when they take on Texas State at 1:30 p.m. CT today.
