Cowgirls Send Seniors Out In Style With Win Over Kansas

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State's women's basketball team beat Kansas on Senior Night, 70-56, Saturday afternoon.Â
The Pokes end the regular season 23-8 and 12-6 in conference play, and Kansas drops to 18-12 and 8-10 in the Big 12.Â
In the first quarter, it was a battle between the two teams to see who could get a lead, and it was deadlocked until a 14-5 run by the Cowgirls in the final half of the quarter. Amari Whiting and Jadyn Wooten were the main contributors in the run with Whiting knocking down a three at the start of it. The quarter closed when Wooten hit a pair of free throws to increase the Cowgirl led to seven and ended the quarter, 20-13.Â
Kansas was trying to make a push in the second quarter with layups to get a comeback brewing, but Wooten made a couple of shots to keep them out of striking distance. The first half ended in a Jayhawk layup to make the score 40-28, in favor of the Pokes. Wooten led all players in scoring at the half with 12 and assists.Â
The third quarter was another push by the Jayhawks where they got into single digits again, each time Achol Akot answered to give the Cowgirls a double-digit lead. Akot got 12 of her 18 points in the quarter all inside the paint. The quarter ended on a Jayhawk layup again to make the score 62-46, heading into the final quarter.Â
OSU controlled the ball in the fourth quarter, limiting Kansas' chances, and it worked. The quarter was very low scoring with the two teams combining for just 18 points. The Jayhawks made a free throw with under a minute remaining to make the final, 70-56.Â
Akot and Wooten were the primary scorers in the game for Jacie Hoyt's squad as both had 18 points followed up by Stailee Heard's 16.Â
This was the last game of the season for OSU, and they ended the season 16-1 inside of Gallagher-Iba Arena.Â
The Pokes will be back in action at the Big 12 tournament which runs from March 4-8.Â
