Oklahoma State from a Distance
With the first 20 games in the books, Oklahoma State Softball is beginning to find its identity as a young, gritty team who can never be counted out of a game. The Cowgirls - comprised of equal parts of returners and newcomers - hold four ranked wins and have nine run-rule wins on the season, which is tied for the most through the first 20 games in program history. OSU is averaging 7.75 runs per game, which would set a new program record if the season ended today.
Claire Timm has provided a consistent presence at the plate through the first month, leading the team in on-base percentage (.475) and slugging percentage (.688). Senior catcher Amanda Hasler has been a powerful force at the plate with eight extra-base hits and 25 runs batted in. Redshirt senior Audrey Schneidmiller has enjoyed the best softball of her career, leading the team with a .412 batting average. Juniors Rosie Davis, Karli Godwin and Tia Warsop have all been steady contributors at the plate as well. Freshmen Aubrey Jones and Jayelle Austin have made immediate impacts, with the former third on the team in batting average (.354) while the latter leads the team in extra-base hits (nine).
Ruby Meylan has been as advertised in the circle as of late, allowing only one earned run in her last 28.2 innings pitched. Preslee Downing has been dominant so far in her first season in Stillwater, posting a 4-0 record with a team-best 1.83 ERA and 15 strikeouts to just four walks. Senior RyLee Crandall has looked steady in her seven starts on the year with a team-best 6-0 record and a 3.47 ERA.
