Cowboy Baseball Falls In Series Opener

The loss snapped the Cowboys' three-game winning streak in Big 12 play as they fell to 6-7 in the league and 21-13 overall. K-State improved to 22-12 and is also 6-7 in the conference.
Ethan Lund took the loss in his ninth start of the season as he fell to 3-1. The southpaw worked 3 2/3 innings and allowed seven runs on four hits. He struck out five and also issued five walks and four wild pitches.
OSU had just five hits in the contest, with Alex Conover and Deacon Pomeroy collecting RBIs for the Pokes.
K-State took the game's initial lead in the opening inning as leadoff hitter Dee Kennedy drew a walk and later scored on a steal of home.
The Cowboys did not trail for long, scoring three runs without a hit in the second. Following a leadoff walk and a hit by pitch to open the inning, a throwing error on a sacrifice bunt brought home the tying run. Pomeroy and Conover then delivered back-to-back RBI groundouts as OSU took a 3-1 advantage.
In the third, K-State would get its first hit and cut the OSU lead to 3-2 when Carlos Vasquez doubled down the left-field line.
The Wildcats regained the lead in the fourth, rallying for five runs on four hits. AJ Evasco led off the inning with a double, and two batters later, Micah Kendrick doubled off the wall in right field to bring him home with the tying run. K-State would then go on top on a two-out single by Kennedy that made the score 4-3 before a walk brought in another run and ended Lund's night.
Jake Kennedy took over on the mound and promptly surrendered a two-RBI single before getting a strikeout to end the inning.
K-State added a run in the sixth, then struck for three in the seventh.
Saturday's contest is scheduled for a 4 p.m. first pitch.
