Cowboy Baseball Clinches Series In Comeback Fashion
April 25, 2026 | Cowboy Baseball
With the win, the Cowboys improved to 27-16 overall and 10-10 in league play, while TTU is now 22-21 and 6-14 in the Big 12. Sunday's series finale is scheduled for an 11 a.m. first pitch.
Kollin Ritchie and Alex Conover each homered and went 3-for-5 at the plate, with Ritchie collecting a game high three RBIs.
Hudson Barrett picked up the win in relief to improve to 3-1. The southpaw did not allow a run over the final two innings and recorded a pair of strikeouts.
Stormy Rhodes started on the mound for the Cowboys and pitched a career-high 5 1/3 innings, allowing five runs on nine hits and striking out three.
TTU took the game's initial lead in the second inning, getting a two-out, two-RBI double by Tracer Lopez to go up 2-0.
The Cowboys erased their deficit and went on top in the third. With two runners on, Brock Thompson delivered an opposite-field RBI double to plate OSU's first run, and Ritchie followed with an RBI infield single to tie the score. Up next, Aidan Meola collected the Pokes' third consecutive hit with another run-scoring single to make the score 3-2.
The one-run lead held up until the fifth. Logan Hughes doubled to lead off the inning, and after advancing to third on a bunt, he scored on a groundout to make it a 3-3 game.
The Red Raiders regained the lead in the sixth when Kyeler Thompson led off the inning with a home run to left field. Later in the inning, a two-out, two-RBI double pushed the advantage to 6-3.
OSU rallied in the seventh, striking for four runs to take the lead back. Conover got things started with a solo homer to left field, his sixth round-tripper of the season. Following a Ritchie triple off the batter's eye in center field, Meola walked to set the stage for Campbell Smithwick, who tied the game with a two-RBI double to right-center field.
The Pokes would go back on top when Colin Brueggemann doubled into the gap to make the score 7-6.
OSU extended its lead in the eighth on a two-run homer from Ritchie, whose opposite-field blast was his 22nd of the season and put the visitors up 9-6.
TTU mounted a rally of its own in the bottom of the frame. After Noah Wech allowed leadoff double and a walk, the Cowboys called on Barrett out of the bullpen. The southpaw struck out the first batter he faced, but back-to-back RBI singles pulled the home team to within one before Barrett escaped further damage with a fly out and pop out to end the inning.
In the ninth, the Red Raiders mounted a rally as the first two batters reached via a single and a walk. But after a strikeout, the game ended on a double play as Thompson snagged a sharp grounder at shortstop and fired to third for the force out. The TTU runner at third was called for interference on his slide, resulting in the double play and ending the game.
