Cowgirl Soccer Ties Sam Houston In Season Opener

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State opened the 2026 season with a 1-1 draw against Sam Houston Wednesday night at Neal Patterson Stadium.
The Cowgirls put the first score on the board in the 12th minute. Emmy Hedden delivered a low shot that was blocked by Bearkat goalie Hannah Stipp. The ball deflected off Stipp's hands, and it was Gracie Bindbeutel stepping up and sending the rebound into the back of the net.
A foul on OSU resulted in a free kick for the Bearkats in the 40th minute, and the visitors took advantage. Gabrielle Gipson took the shot, which went past the wall of OSU players and goalkeeper to the far post to send the game into halftime tied.
OSU outshot Sam Houston 10-1 in the first half with three shots on target.
In the second half, the Cowgirls continued to dominate the attack and create shots, but Stipp recorded five saves. Three of those came from Emma Jensen, while Bindbeutel and Aubrey Wagner also put shots on frame.
Sam Houston had one shot on goal in the second half, which was saved by Cowgirl goalie Logan Marks, her lone save of the match.
The Cowgirls ended the contest with a 24-4 advantage in shots, including an 8-2 edge in shots on goal, and tallied eight corner kicks to just one for Sam Houston.
OSU returns to action Sunday when it hosts Stephen F. Austin at 7 p.m.
