Cowboys garner Pop-Tarts Bowl Crazy Good Team of the Week honors

DALLAS – The Oklahoma State Cowboy football team has been named the Pop-Tarts Bowl Crazy Good Team of the Week following its historic 39-31 win over No. 6 Oregon last weekend, the All-America Committee of the Football Writers Association of America announced today.
The win ended a 12-game losing streak for OSU and marked the first time in FBS history that a team snapped a 10-game losing streak against an AP top-10 opponent, according to ESPN. Despite trailing 31-30 early in the fourth quarter, OSU responded with nine unanswered points and key defensive stops to claim its first win over an AP top-six team since January 1, 2022.
The Pokes outgained Oregon 554-281 in total offense, including a 237-90 edge in rushing yards, and held the ball for nearly 37 minutes compared to the Ducks' 23.
Quarterback Drew Mestemaker amassed 426 yards of total offense as he threw for 317 yards and two touchdowns and added a career-high 109 yards on the ground with a leaping 10-yard score. Caleb Hawkins rushed for 110 yards and a touchdown, while Wyatt Young tallied seven catches for 121 yards and a score.
Saturday's contest marked the second in Oklahoma State history with a 100-yard running back, a 100-yard receiver and a quarterback who passed for 300 yards and rushed for 100 yards. The first was in 2018 when Chuba Hubbard (134 rushing), Dillon Stoner (127 receiving) and Taylor Cornelius (338 passing and 106 rushing) accomplished the feat against No. 7 West Virginia at Boone Pickens Stadium.
The win snapped Oregon's 41-game win streak against unranked opponents and extended OSU's home-opener win streak to 31 games, the longest active streak in college football.
This is the fifth time Oklahoma State has earned the FWAA's National Team of the Week honor and its first since defeating No. 10 Oklahoma in the final scheduled Bedlam game in 2023. The Cowboys were also recognized in 2008, 2013 and 2018.
The FWAA has recognized a National Team of the Week since the 2022 season. Weekly candidates are evaluated by the FWAA All-America Committee with supporting data analysis from the Iron Football app.
Each honored team will receive a delivery of assorted Pop-Tarts and a custom-crafted game ball from Big Game USA, the Dallas-based manufacturer of handcrafted American-made footballs.
The Cowboys are back in action at 6 p.m. CT on Saturday, Sept. 19, against Murray State inside Boone Pickens Stadium.
