Cowboy Basketball welcomes new athletic trainer

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State University Sports Medicine has hired Joshua Gardiner as the new athletic trainer for Cowboy Basketball.
An Oklahoma native, Gardiner returns home after spending the past four-plus years at Colorado State University Pueblo, where he most recently served as interim director of sports medicine and insurance coordinator.
"We're excited to welcome Josh to Oklahoma State and to our basketball family," Lutz said. "He brings a great combination of experience, leadership and a genuine commitment to caring for student-athletes. This is a role built on trust and relationships, and we feel like Josh will be a tremendous resource for our guys."
Gardiner joined CSU Pueblo in January 2022 as an assistant athletic trainer and was promoted to associate athletic trainer in 2023. In June 2026, he was elevated to interim director of sports medicine, overseeing sports medicine operations for the department's 17 NCAA programs and more than 500 student-athletes.
In addition to working with the university's men's and women's basketball teams, Gardiner has provided care for athletes in volleyball, swimming and diving, golf and baseball.
Prior to CSU Pueblo, Gardiner spent four years as an athletic training intern at Metropolitan State University of Denver, where he earned a bachelor's degree in athletic training.
Gardiner also served four years in the United States Marine Corps from 2008-12, attaining the rank of corporal and earning certification as a Combat Life Saver.
