STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's women's basketball team got a pair of double-double performances en route to an 82-52 win over UT Arlington on Monday night in front of 2,116 fans inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.
Sophomore Toni Young logged her third double-double in the squad's first four outings, finishing with 20 points and 10 rebounds, while freshman Vicky McIntyre tallied 10 points and a game-high 13 boards in her first career start for OSU (4-0).
Tiffany Bias nearly made it three Cowgirls with a double-double night, finishing with 10 points and nine assists.
UTA (1-3) kept it close in the first half, trailing 39-29 at the break behind a 17-point half from Tamara Simmons. The senior guard hit all five of her 3-pointers on the night and missed just two of her 14 shots on her way to a game-high 30 points.
"I thought she put on a display out here that I haven't seen since Andrea Riley," Budke said. "She hit tough shots and she hit shots with people in her face and she was incredible. We thought we needed to change up the defense a little bit on her and keep track of her a little bit more."
After Simmons hit back-to-back buckets to cut the lead to seven in the second half, the Cowgirls used a 19-3 run to gain a little breathing room.
Senior Lakyn Garrison, broke out of her shooting slump in a big way over the final 20 minutes. The Wickes, Ark., native scored 15 of her 17 points, behind a 5-of-8 effort from beyond the 3-point line, in the second period to help OSU pull away. Garrison had made just two of her 23 attempts through the Cowgirls' first three games, before recording a new career-high point total.
"She does the work every single day. She puts in the extra time every single day, but as a shooter you have to have confidence in yourself first," Budke said. "I told her as a coach that, `We are going to keep calling the sets for you. We're going to keep coming to you because we believe in you.' We just knew that a night like tonight was due and here it was. We needed her tonight."
The Cowgirls will return to action on Nov. 26 when they take on Rhode Island in the first round of the UNM Thanksgiving Classic in Albuquerque, N.M.
