He secured major decisions in both road outings this fall and took the contest against Gopher Garrett Joles two weeks ago via decision. Redshirt sophomore Kaden Gfeller dropped one spot to No. 11 with no matches to date at 141 pounds. Wyatt Sheets (157) landed in The Open Mat and FloWrestling's rankings this week at No. 20 and 24, respectively. Cowboy Wrestling Nearing 500th Win in GIA
Since becoming the home of Cowboy Wrestling in 1939, Gallagher-Iba Arena has hosted 543 dual meets. The program has won an impressive 497 of those and tied in six. That means the Cowboys have won 92 percent of their home matches in the building. With seven home duals slated for the 2019-20 season, the Pokes have ample opportunity to reach the 500-win milestone on their home mat.
Chasing 100
Senior Nick Piccininni sits only 10 wins away from notching his 100th victory in the OSU orange singlet. In 2019 the Cowboy earned 34 victories over the course of the season, including a perfect regular season, and a 10-2 mark against ranked opponents. The milestone would add Piccininni to a list of only 43 wrestlers to reach the milestone including current Poke, Kaid Brock, who has exactly 100 wins to his name.
What to Watch
This weekend's dual with Princeton features several interesting matchups, one of particular interest to the OSU wrestling faithful is that between Cowboy Sheets and Princeton's No. 9 Quincy Monday. Both Sheets' and Monday's fathers wrestled on the same team in Stillwater for four years. Each wrestler has one loss on the year at 157 pounds. Piccininni, Lewallen and Geer each look to remain undefeated in dual action and each will have his work cut out for him. Third-ranked Piccininni has a rematch from NCAAs with No. 4 Patrick Glory. The Cowboy has defeated the Tiger three consecutive times with the most recent coming via pin in Pittsburgh. No. 4 Lewallen is set to wrestle 14th-ranked Mike D'Angelo. Geer meets No. 2 Patrick Brucki again after dropping a close match to the Tiger last season. Geer wrestled up a weight at 197 pounds in that dual. This season, the Poke is wrestling consistently at the 197-pound weight and could make for an interesting bout.
