August 24, 2025 | Cowgirl Soccer
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State held on to defeat Arkansas State by a score of 3-2 Sunday afternoon at Neal Patterson Stadium.
With the win, the Cowgirls moved to 2-1-1 while the Red Wolves fell to 1-1-2.
Xcaret Pineda recorded a brace to mark the first multi-goal game of her Cowgirl career, bringing her season total to five goals in four games. She is one goal shy of tying her season high of six, which she accomplished in each of the previous two seasons.
Jazmin Brown also found the back of the net for the Cowgirls, marking her first goal of the season, and Taryn Thibeau and Sonora De Fini each picked up assists.
Logan Marks got the start in net for the Cowgirls and stopped the lone shot she faced before Murphy Sheaff took over in the 66th minute to close the game out.
Pineda opened the scoring in the 26th minute of the match with a world-class strike as she made a move to throw off a defender before delivering a 30-yard shot top shelf to the near post.
With under two minutes remaining in the opening half, Thibeau took a corner from the right side of the pitch, and Brown was able to elevate above the competition and sneak a header past the ASU keeper.
OSU dominated the first half, outshooting ASU, 12-2, and taking a 2-0 lead into the break.
In the second half, Pineda was again the first to score, with her second goal coming in the 61st minute. De Fini dealt a pass from the center of the box to Pineda, who stood outside the right side of the box and delivered another left-footed strike, this time to the far post, to make the score 3-0.
That score held until the 83rd minute when Kennedy Horn got the Red Wolves on the board with a goal assisted by Alexia Watts and Ellen Hampton.
In the next minute, ASU drew a foul in box, allowing Leigha Dobbins to take a penalty that she converted to make it a 3-2 game.
OSU held the visitors without a shot over the final 6:12 to secure the win.
The Cowgirls return to action Thursday with a road contest at Rice set for a 6 p.m. kickoff.
