Knocking Off The Nationally Ranked
Both of OSU's Big 12 wins this season have come against ranked opponents.
OSU's win over 14th-ranked TCU marked its first victory over a ranked opponent since the Cowgirls won at No. 6 Nebraska to open the 2024 season. It snapped a seven-game losing streak against the Horned Frogs and was OSU's first triumph over TCU since 2017.
After going winless in Big 12 play last season, the victory was also the Cowgirls' first in conference play since Oct. 20, 2024, when they won at UCF. After scoring just five goals in 11 league games last season, OSU tallied three in the win over TCU.Â
OSU bested No. 16 West Virginia last weekend, scoring a goal on a penalty kick with two minutes remaining to secure a 2-1 victory.Â
The two ranked wins is OSU's most in a season since the split 2020-21 campaign when the Cowgirls defeated No. 4 West Virginia in the fall and No. 17 Saint Louis in the spring.
In 2004, OSU beat four ranked teams, the most in a season in program history; the 2009 Cowgirls knocked off three ranked squads.Â
Stepping Up The Scoring Punch
Through 17 matches in 2026, OSU has recorded 32 goals, with 11 Cowgirls finding the back of the net.
In 19 games last season, OSU had just 20 goals with eight different players scoring.Â
Sonora Sends It In
Sonora DeFini set scoring records during her high school career in Nebraska, and she has continued to rack up goals at the collegiate level.
DeFini leads OSU with seven goals this season, which comes on the heels of her freshman campaign of a year ago when she ranked second on the Cowgirls with four goals. She also had a pair of assists last season and was second on the squad with 10 points.
In 2026, DeFini leads the team with 17 points on seven goals and three assists; she is tied for sixth in the Big 12 in points and ninth in goals. Four of DeFini's goals have come in conference play.Â
Preseason Love
Senior Laudan Wilson was named to the Preseason All-Big 12 Team at midfielder. Wilson, who missed much of last season with injury, was an All-Big 12 First Team selection as a sophomore in 2024 after scoring five goals and posting nine assists; her assist total ranked second in the Big 12 and was the most assists in a season by a Cowgirl since Jaci Jones had 12 in 2019.
Wilson is second on the Cowgirls with five goals this season, which ties her career high from 2024. Three of her goals have come in Big 12 play.Â
In 67 career games for the Cowgirls, Wilson has recorded 13 goals and 16 assists. She is four assists away from cracking the top 10 list in program history.Â
