Cowboys Grab Lead At Cabo Collegiate

LOS CABOS, Mexico – Oklahoma State's men's golf team posted an opening 280 on Sunday at the Cabo Collegiate to stand alone atop the leaderboard at Twin Dolphin Club.
The Cowboys' 4-under total put them one shot ahead of Arizona State and Arkansas on a tightly bunched leaderboard at the par-71, 7,156-yard layout. Eight teams finished the day within five shots of OSU's total.
California's Ziqin Zhou opened with a 64 to hold a three-shot advantage in the individual race.
OSU's Preston Stout was one of four players to come in tied for second place with an opening 67. The junior started his day at the fifth with a birdie and added another at the eighth. He would add two more birdies at the 11th and 13th to get to 4-under for the day. After carding bogeys at the 16th and 17th, Stout rallied with birdies at the 18th and the third to move back to 4-under par for the day.
Classmate Eric Lee found his way into the top 10, sharing sixth place after posting a 68 that included six birdies.
Junior Ethan Fang got in with an even-par total of 71 to finish the day tied for 25th place.
Sophomore Filip Fahlberg-Johnsson posted a 74 to share 47th place, while junior Gaven Lane's 77 tied him for 69th place.
The Cowboys will begin their second round at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow and will be grouped with Arkansas, Arizona State and Ole Miss.
