Cowboy Baseball Tops DBU

DALLAS – Oklahoma State completed a season sweep of Dallas Baptist Tuesday night with a 15-4 victory over the Patriots at Horner Ballpark.
With their second win over DBU this season, the Cowboys improved to 18-11; DBU is now 16-13.
Colin Brueggemann had four RBIs and hit a pair of home runs for the Pokes, with Kollin Ritchie, TP Wentworth and Garrett Shull also going deep.
Kai Fye picked up the win in relief of Wentworth, who started on the mound and at DH. Fyke improved to 2-0 as he worked three innings and allowed just one run while tying a career high with five strikeouts.
The Cowboys fell behind in the first inning as Luke Pettitte smacked a two-run home run to left field.
OSU cut that lead in half in the third. After a perfectly executed hit and run put runners on the corners with two outs, Ezra Essex came in to score on a wild pitch to make the score 2-1.
The Patriots got the run back in the fourth, getting a pair of singles and a double steal of second and third before an RBI groundout extended their lead to 3-1.
Brueggemann made it a one-run game once again in the fifth, leading off the inning with his fifth homer of the season over the wall in center field.
The Pokes seized control of the scoreboard with a six-run rally in the sixth as they sent 11 batters to the plate.
Ritchie got things started with a solo bomb to right field as his 17th blast of the season made it 3-3.
The Cowboys then took advantage of the DBU pitching staff's inability to find the strike zone. After loading the bases on a single, walk and hit by pitch, Brueggemann and Wentworth drew back-to-back RBI walks. Up next, Shull was hit by a pitch to plate OSU's sixth run.
The lead reached 8-3 when Thompson ripped a two-out, two-RBI single up the middle before DBU was able to get out of the inning.
The Patriots loaded the bases themselves in the bottom of the inning, doing so with no outs. A sacrifice fly made the score 8-4, but Fyke was able to get another fly out and an inning-ending strikeout that left the bases full to escape further damage.
OSU added insurance in the seventh via the long ball. Brueggemann smacked his second of the night, a two-run shot, and Wentworth followed that with his fifth homer of the season as the back-to-back jacks pushed the Cowboys' advantage to 11-4. That duo also hit back-to-back homers against DBU earlier this month in the game in Stillwater.
Shull capped OSU's scoring with a three-run home run to center field in the eighth.
OSU returns to action Friday when the Cowboys open a three-game series against Cincinnati at O'Brate Stadium.
