In The Rankings
Oklahoma State climbed to No. 19 in the GoRout/NFCA Coaches Poll. The ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25 ranks the Cowgirls at No. 12, while Softball America has the Pokes at No. 16 and D1Softball has OSU at No. 12.
The Cowgirls were picked to finish second in the Big 12 Conference with one first-place vote in a poll by the league's head coaches.
Oklahoma State from a Distance
Through the first weekend of conference play, the Oklahoma State Softball is beginning to find its identity as a young, gritty team who can never be counted out of a game. The Cowgirls - comprised of equal parts of returners and newcomers - hold five ranked wins and have nine run-rule wins on the season, which was tied for the most through the first 21 games in program history. OSU is averaging 7.08 runs per game, which would set a new program record if the season ended today.
Claire Timm has provided a consistent presence at the plate through the first month, leading the team in hits (24) and on-base percentage (.473). Senior catcher Amanda Hasler has been a powerful force at the plate with nine extra-base hits and a team-best 26 runs batted in. Redshirt senior Audrey Schneidmiller has enjoyed the best softball of her career, already matching or setting single-season career bests in most offensive statistics. Juniors Rosie Davis, Karli Godwin and Tia Warsop have all been steady contributors at the plate as well. Freshmen Aubrey Jones and Jayelle Austin have made immediate impacts, with the former fourth on the team in batting average (.353) while the latter is tied for the team lead in extra-base hits (nine) and paces the team with 22 walks.
After a shaky start to the season by her own standards, Ruby Meylan has rebounded well with a 1.32 ERA in her last 37.0 IP. On the year, she's 7-5 with a 2.91 ERA and 80 strikeouts. Preslee Downing has been solid in her first season in Stillwater, posting a 4-0 record with a team-best 2.40 ERA and 15 strikeouts to just four walks. Senior RyLee Crandall has looked steady in her eight starts on the year with a 6-1 record and a 3.83 ERA.
