Bio
2024-25 (Graduate):
“Shooting wing” has been part of champion runs in both the Big Ten and Conference USA on teams that have combined for nearly 100 wins (98-36, .731 in four seasons)… Has played for Lutz at three different stops (OSU, WKU and Purdue).
Steve Lutz on Brandon Newman:
"Experience matters in this game. Brandon has been to four straight NCAA tournaments and played a major role in our postseason success at Western Kentucky and Purdue. He's a skilled guard who can shoot, rebound and defend at a high level, and he's a great guy, as well. We're excited that he'll be joining us at OSU."
At Western Kentucky (2023-24):
Second-leading scorer and an honorable mention all-conference performer… Started all 34 games during his lone season in Bowling Green, Ky… Averaged 10.1 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.3 steals while knocking down 51 threes… Played his best basketball late in the year, reaching double-figures eight times over the final 12 games… Scored 15 points on 4-of-7 three-point shooting in the CUSA title game to earn a spot on the all-tournament team and send the Hilltoppers back to the Big Dance for the first time since 2013… Put up a season-high 25 points at home against Jackson State (Jan. 13, 2024).
At Purdue (2019-23):
2023 Purdue graduate, spent a total of four years in West Lafayette, Ind. but burned just two seasons of eligibility thanks to a redshirt (2019-20) and a bonus year from the COVID-19 pandemic (2020-21)… Helped the Boilermakers to a 76-24 record over three-year span (2020-23) along with three NCAA tournament trips, highlighted by a run to the 2022 Sweet 16… Played his way into the starting lineup over the last six games over his junior season on a team that won the Big Ten regular season title and finished at No. 3 in the AP Poll… Averaged 6.3 points over 88 games as a Boilermaker and logged 30 starts.
High School:
Four-star recruit rated No. 75 by Rivals and No. 80 by ESPN.com in the Class of 2019… Verbally committed to Purdue (and assistant coach Steve Lutz) on Sep. 19, 2018 over offers from Indiana, Ohio State, Xavier and Florida State among others.… Finished second in the 2019 Indiana Mr. Basketball voting behind 2023 Golden State Warriors draft pick Trayce Jackson-Davis… Scored 1,577 points during his career at Valparaiso High School… Averaged 27.2 points, 8.8 rebounds and 2.5 steals as a senior while shooting almost 40% from deep… A member of the Indiana All-Star team… Led his team to the 4A regional semifinals as a junior when he averaged 25.1 points and 9.5 boards while converting 43% of his threes on nearly five attempts per game.
