Cowboys Rally In Second Half To Top Minnesota

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. ---- Jeffrey Carroll scored 12 points in a 62-60 win against Minnesota at the Pentagon Saturday night.
Carroll hit one of two free throws with 7 seconds left to seal the win for the Cowboys. The sophomore played a big part in the second-half comeback, his three with 15:25 remaining tied the game at 35, and sparked an eventual 9-0 Oklahoma State run.
A Joe Burton three a minute later gave the Cowboys a 38-35 lead, and his next three with 12:05 remaining gave Oklahoma State a 44-37 lead to force a Gopher timeout.
With 10:36 left, Mitchell Solomon grabbed an offensive rebound and scored with an easy put back to give Oklahoma State its biggest lead of the night at 48-39. A powerful Burton dunk a few minutes later gave the Cowboys a 50-43 lead, but a Nate Mason jumper cut the Oklahoma State lead to 52-49 with 4:57 remaining.
After the Gophers cut the lead to two, Tavarius Shine's jumper late in the shot clock gave the Cowboys a 56-52 lead with 2:56 left.
Oklahoma State had plenty of production from both its starters and bench. It finished outscoring the Minnesota bench 27-22.
The Cowboys shared the ball from the start, with eight of the ten Cowboys who saw action scoring in the first half. Nine Cowboys would finish with points.
A Shine three with 13:15 remaining in the half sparked a 6-0 run to give Oklahoma State an 11-10 lead.
Later in the half, a pair of Chris Olivier free throws cut the Minnesota lead to 27-24 with 1:06 left.
A Gopher turnover led to an Olivier three-point play off a layup and foul that gave the Cowboys a 28-27 lead. Ahmad Gilbert's buzzer-beating three pointer gave Minnesota a 30-28 lead at the half.
Olivier led all scorers with 10 points at the half. Mason led the way for the Gophers, finishing with 14 points and three assists.
On top of his team-high 12 points, Carroll also brought down four rebounds to help lead the Cowboys to victory.
It was also a career night for a couple Cowboys. Jawun Evans finished with eight points and a career and team season-high eight assists, and Leyton Hammonds scored six points and tied his career high in rebounds with seven.Â
