Cowboys Seal Victory Over South Florida
March 06, 2026 | Cowboy Tennis
STILLWATER - The Oklahoma State men's tennis team defeated South Florida, 4-1, Friday evening at the Greenwood Tennis Center.
With the win, the Cowboys improved to 12-3 overall, moving to a perfect 10-0 at home for the second time in Greenwood Tennis Center history. South Florida drops to 3-10 on the campaign.
The victory also gives OSU their best start of any season during the head coach Dustin Taylor era and moves the Cowboys to 2-0 all-time against South Florida. In addition, the 12-3 start is OSU's best start since 2018.
Doubles play set the tone early as the Cowboys made quick work against the Bulls. On court three, OSU's Haydar Gokpinar and Alessio Basile swiftly defeated USF's Timeo Gaillard and Max Mroz, 6-4. Shortly after, Cowboy's Nicolas Kobelt and Aaron Williams defeated Toto Llanes and James Newton, 6-3, on court three. With the doubles point secured, Charlie Valentine's and Derek Pham's match against Hugo Car and Ettore Danesi went unfinished.
Heading into singles play, OSU struck first on court five with Williams taking down USF's Newton, 6-1, 6-2, picking up his first win since returning from injury. Despite a strong effort, Kobelt fell to South Florida's Stepan Mruzek, 6-7, 1-6, on court two to make it 2-1 Cowboys. Freshman Haydar Gokpinar bested Gaillard on court six, 6-4, 6-3, giving him a team-high 12 singles wins on the 2026 campaign and keeps himself undefeated at the GTC.
As he did on Tuesday against San Diego, Ian Bracks clinched the match for the Cowboys, defeating Llanes, 6-3, 6-2, on court four. After claiming the victory, Basile and Pham's singles matches on courts one and three were left unfinished.
The Cowboys will head north to Wichita, Kansas, where they will face No. 64 Wichita State on Sunday at 11 a.m.
