Arizona State gets past Oklahoma State in Big 12 Softball semifinal, Cowgirls now await NCAA placement
May 08, 2026 | Cowgirl Softball
The Sun Devils (40-16 overall) held a 10-2 lead with one out in the bottom of the fifth inning before the Cowgirls (38-15 overall) roared back with four runs to stave off the run-rule and work their way back into the contest.
Starter Ruby Meylan had her shortest outing of the year, giving up six runs (five earned) in 1 1/3 innings of work to take the loss and fall to 27-7 on the year. It snapped a streak of 20 consecutive winning decisions for the two-time All-American and 2026 Big 12 Pitcher of the Year, who hadn't been tagged with a loss since March 13. OSU matched a season high by committing three errors in a game that was delayed for nearly an hour as thunderstorms passed through the area prior to first pitch.
RyLee Crandall held Arizona State scoreless for her first three innings of relief before surrendering four runs in the fifth inning and one in the sixth. Preslee Downing then came on to keep ASU off the scoreboard in the sixth and seventh, facing only the minimum of six batters.
The Cowgirls' first two runs were driven in by Audrey Schneidmiller, who singled home Lexi McDonald with two outs in the second inning, then singled home Rosie Davis with two outs in the fourth.
OSU's fifth-inning rally was ignited by an RBI double from Karli Godwin, who came around to score on an opposite-field single from McDonald two batters later. Amanda Hasler continued the comeback effort with a two-run single down the right field line. ASU eventually got out of the jam with the Cowgirls stranding runners on second and third.
After the Pokes went down in order in the sixth inning, Davis led off the bottom of the seventh with her 14th home run of the season, a solo blast to center field that capped the scoring at 11-7.
McDonald (3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored), Schneidmiller (2-for-3 with two RBIs), Godwin (2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored) and Davis (1-for-3 with a home run and three runs scored) led the charge offensively for OSU.
Tanya Windle, Ashleigh Mejia, Brooklyn Ulrich, and Emily Schepp all homered for the Sun Devils.
The Cowgirls learn their NCAA placement when the NCAA Softball Selection Show airs live at 6 p.m. CT Sunday on ESPN2. OSU enters the national tournament as a winner in 21 of its last 26 games.
