FORT WORTH, Texas – Oklahoma State picked up a point in the Big 12 Conference standings Sunday with a 1-1 draw against TCU at Garvey-Rosenthal Stadium.
The Cowgirls are now 7-1-3 overall and 0-1-1 in Big 12 play, while TCU is 7-3-1 and 1-0-1 in the league.
Ally Jackson's first-career goal in the 88th minute provided OSU's lone score in a match that saw the Cowgirls outshoot TCU by a 21-19 margin. Five of the OSU shots were on goal, while the visitors saw several attempts deflect off the crossbar or the post.
Julia Lenhardt came close to putting OSU on the scoreboard twice in the opening half on a pair of nearly identical plays. Both came off Jaci Jones' corner kicks as Lenhardt delivered headers on frame, but both attempts were saved off the line by TCU defenders.
TCU held a slim 7-6 advantage in shots before intermission, with the Horned Frogs' two best opportunities coming off a free kick just outside the 18-yard box in the 26th minute. But Yazmeen Ryan's initial shot was blocked by the OSU defensive wall as was her rebound attempt.
OSU continued to create scoring chances in the second half and outshot the home team 13-7, but near misses looked as if they would doom the Cowgirls.
In the 62nd minute, Gabriella Coleman delivered a shot off crossbar before a follow attempt by Charmé Morgan was saved by TCU goalie Emily Alvarado.
The 70th minute produced another near go-ahead score for the Cowgirls, this time when Jones smacked a shot that was blocked by a TCU defender before being saved off the crossbar by Alvarado.
The Frogs broke the scoreless drought in the 82nd minute when Ryan delivered a free kick from the sideline that OSU keeper Dani Greenlee got a hand on but could not punch out as the ball carried into the net for a 1-0 TCU lead.
But the Cowgirls answered with just 2:20 remaining in regulation as Jones sent a corner kick into the box that Jackson headed to the near post for the equalizer.
Both teams had chances at a game winner in the final two minutes of regulation. But Greenlee made a big save on a shot by Messiah Bright at the 88:34 mark before an Alvarado save and a blocked shot by a TCU defender kept the Cowgirls from producing a second goal in the final 47 seconds.
The Cowgirls return to action Thursday at Neal Patterson Stadium with their Big 12 home opener against Kansas before a Sunday showdown against Kansas State.
