STILLWATER – Oklahoma State improved its winning streak to seven games and swept its midweek series over Arizona State with a 7-4 victory Wednesday at O'Brate Stadium.
With the win, the 13th-ranked Cowboys improved to 10-3, while ASU fell to 6-7.
Nolan Schubart added to his team-leading home run and RBI totals, going 1-for-3 with a three-run homer and walk, while Roc Riggio homered and scored twice. Aidan Meola had a career-high three hits and collected an RBI.
Ben Abram picked up the win on the mound, working six innings and striking out a career-high eight while allowing three earned runs in his first start of the season. Nolan McLean worked a scoreless ninth for his NCAA-leading sixth save of the season.
Abram allowed two hits and one run in the first but managed to strand two runners. The Cowboys bounced back in the bottom half of the inning, tying the game on Riggio's solo shot to right field.
The Cowboys took control of the game in the third inning, adding five runs on six hits, including Schubart's three-run blast to right-center field. OSU tacked on four-straight singles after the homer, getting RBI hits from Meola and Chase Adkison to extend the lead to 6-1.
With OSU leading 7-2 after six innings, ASU's Willie Cano hit a two-run homer in the top of the seventh to cut the Cowboys' lead down to three runs. But Michael Benzor quickly retired the next two batters to cut out the Sun Devils' scoring threat.
Still leading 7-4 in the eighth, OSU saw the Sun Devils load the bases with only one out. Bayden Root came out of the bullpen and got a crucial strikeout on the only batter he faced before Drew Blake was called on and induced a flyout to left field to get out of the jam with the three-run lead intact.
McLean struck out the final two batters in the ninth to secure the win.
OSU will be back in action Friday at 6 p.m. in O'Brate Stadium when it takes on Utah Tech in the first of a four-game series. A doubleheader is scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m., and Sunday's finale is also set for a 1 p.m. first pitch.
