Big 12 Tourney Tidbits:
- OSU is in search of its first Big 12 Tournament crown since winning back-to-back titles under Eddie Sutton in 2004 and 2005. The latter was this event's final appearance at Kemper Arena.
- With Tuesday's win over Colorado, OSU is 20-9 all-time in Big 12 Tournament openers, including 15-5 in first and second round games (pre-quarterfinals).
- This is the Cowboys' 24th Big 12 Tournament in Kansas CIty, and the CU win has evened their record at 21-21. That includes an 12-15 mark at the T-Mobile Center.
Â
Opening Tips:
- Oklahoma State looks to extend its stay in Kansas City when it takes on No. 6 seed TCU in second-round Big 12 Tournament action.
- The Cowboys knocked off No. 11 seed Colorado in Tuesday's first round, 92-83, helped by 24 points from Anthony Roy and Christian Coleman's double-double (17 pts, 14 reb).
- The 92 points were the most ever by an OSU team in Big 12 Tournament play. It was the Cowboys' 13th 90-point game this season, breaking the school record.
- The OSU-TCU winner will take on No. 3 seed Kansas in Thursday's quarterfinals (8:30 p.m.).
- The Pokes were the first team eliminated from the 2024 and 2025 tournaments, but a win tonight would give them multiple victories for the first time since reaching the 2021 final.
- This is the second time OSU and TCU have met in Kansas City. In 2019, the Cowboys rallied from 21 down in the second half to take the lead with 25 seconds left, but Desmond Bane's corner three lifted the Frogs to an eventual 73-70 win.
- The Pokes are looking to reverse a trend of heartbreaking losses to TCU. They dropped a pair of three-point decisions to the Frogs during the regular season (68-65 in Fort Worth and 94-91 in overtime last month in Stillwater).
- A win over TCU would give Steve Lutz his fourth 20-win season in five years as a head coach and OSU its 39th all-time.
- OSU improved from 12-20 to 17-18 in Lutz's first season, reaching at the 2025 NIT quarterfinals. The progress continues in year two with a 19-13 record and another 20-spot jump in the NET.
- Lutz is 9-1 in conference tournaments (1-1 with OSU). He guided Corpus Christi to a pair of Southland titles (2022, 2023) and won another in the CUSA with Western Kentucky (2024).
- Injuries have taken a toll on the Cowboy front court with three projected rotation players out for the season, most notably honorable mention All-Big 12 selection Parsa Fallah. Freshman Benjamin Ahmed (7 pts, 6 reb vs. Colorado) has helped pick up the slack, averaging 8.3 points and 5.6 rebounds over the last four games.
- Lutz likes to push the pace and has the horses to do it. Guards Kanye Clary (10.0 ppg, 4.7 apg, 2.33 A:TO) and Jaylen Curry (10.3 ppg, 3.7 apg, 2.60 A:TO) are among the keys to an offense that ranks ninth in adjusted tempo and among the top-25 in scoring offense (84.2).
- OSU also ranks 21st in free throw makes (18.7) and tops the Big 12 in bench scoring (28.2 ppg).
- Senior guard Anthony Roy leads a group of five double-figure scorers at 16.7 points and ranks among the nation's best three-point shooters, hitting 3.0 per game on 39.5% accuracy.
Â
On This Date: March 11
- 1958 -- Arlen Clark's 26 points powered Oklahoma State University to a 59-42 victory over Loyola of New Orleans in the first round of the NCAA regional basketball tournament. Jerry Adair added 15 for OSU.
Â
First Round Rewind:
Tuesday, March 10 | [14] OSU 92, [11] Colorado 83
- Anthony Roy scored 24 points and Christian Coleman added 17 points and 14 rebounds to lead OSU into the second round at the Big 12 Tournament after back-to-back first-round exits.
- The Cowboys scored 92 points — the most ever by an OSU team in Big 12 Tournament play — despite shooting just 45% from the field and 5-of-17 from three. They converted 29-of-35 free throws and won the rebounding battle, 44-34.
- Colorado shot 47.1% and hit 10 threes but converted just 9-of-16 free throws.
- OSU overcame an early 12-point deficit to stake a 41-40 halftime lead. Roy scored six of his points during a 7-0 Cowboy run to start the second half.
- OSU made eight of its final 12 field goals and went 14-of-15 from the free-throw line over the last 10 minutes to seal the win.
- Jaylen Curry added 15 points for the Cowboys, who committed just seven turnovers including two during the second half. Kanye Clary had six of OSU's 17 assists.
- Bangot Dak finished with 22 points on 10-of-13 shooting for Colorado.
Â
More First Round Leftovers:
- OSU set new Big 12 Tournament bests for points (92) and free throw makes (29). The former came in its only other Big 12 tourney matchup with Colorado, an 87-85 victory in the 2005 quarterfinals.
- The Cowboys are 8-1 when Christian Coleman scores at least 15 points. He had 17 against Colorado.
- Coleman needs just four more points to reach 1,000 for the NCAA portion of his career, which includes two seasons at UAB and one with OSU.
- Coleman's double-double was his fourth of the season and the 11th of his career.
- Coleman's 14 rebounds matched his career-high set last season with UAB.
- Coleman's 14 rebounds were the most by a Cowboy in any game since March 8, 2023 when Tyreek Smith grabbed 14 boards in a first-round Big 12 Tournament win over Oklahoma (Notably, that was OSU's last win at this event prior to Tuesday night).
- Coleman's 14 rebounds tied for the third most ever by a Cowboy in Big 12 Tournament play.
- OSU is 13-4 in evening games (after 6 p.m. local time) compared to 6-9 in morning/afternoon tipoffs. Should the Cowboys continue winning in KC, they'll tip every game through the semifinal round at (or after) 8:30 p.m.
- OSU improved to 16-2 this season when tied or leading at halftime (31-4 in two seasons under Lutz).
- OSU improved to 15-2 (27-7 Lutz era) when out-rebounding its opponent.
- Kanye Clary has made a three-pointer in each of his last 10 games. He's 19-of-43 (.442) in that span, raising his season percentage from .299 to .355.
- Clary needs just 11 more assists to move into the top-10 on OSU's single-season chart.
- Anthony Roy recorded his team-best ninth 20-point game of the season.
- Roy added two more three-pointers to move into sole possession of ninth-place on the OSU single-season list (88). He needs just one more triple to match Obi Muonelo (88 in 2008-09) and JamesOn Curry (88 in 2006-07) for seventh-place.
- Clary (6 assists) and Jaylen Curry (4) combined for double-digit dimes for the 10th time this season.
- OSU played without its top two centers. Parsa Fallah, an honorable mention All-Big 12 selection, is out for the year with a knee injury, and Andrija Vukovic was unavailable Tuesday due to injury.
- Benjamin Ahmed finished with seven points and six rebounds in 21 minutes, and freshman Mekhi Ragland (who had played less than 40 minutes across 10 appearances) clocked eight minutes and matched a personal-best with four points.
- Coleman also logged time at the five-spot. He played a team-high 35 minutes, 31 seconds.
Â
Also Trending:
- The Cowboys have scored at least 81 points in all 19 victories but are 0-12 when falling short.
- OSU is 29-1 under Lutz when scoring 81+.
- OSU has scored 90+ points a total of 13 times, breaking the school record (12), set by Brad Underwood's 2016-17 team.
- OSU has played the nation's 33rd hardest schedule, per KenPom, while facing the 15th toughest collection of opposing defenses.
- OSU is 2-9 in Quadrant 1 games, 8-4 in Quadrant 2 and a combined 9-0 Quadrant 3 and 4 contests.
- The NCAA's resume-based metric, Wins Above Bubble (WAB), estimates that the Cowboys have performed exactly 0.01 wins better than the average hypothetical bubble team would have against the same schedule.
Â
The Series with TCU:
- OSU is 29-17 all-time in a series that began in 1918 and includes a brief two-year overlap in the old Southwest Conference (1923-25). The schools reunited in 2012 when TCU joined the Big 12 Conference.
- Nine of the last 10 meetings between the teams have been decided by two possessions in either direction. TCU is 7-2 in those games.
- The Horned Frogs swept the 2025-26 regular season series with a pair of three-point victories.
Â
Scouting the Horned Frogs:
- 10th year head coach Jamie Dixon is looking to get his alma mater back to the NCAA tournament for the fourth time in five years.
- The Horned Frogs (21-10, 11-7) are in good position to do so after posting an 8-1 record over the second half of the Big 12 schedule. They take a five-game winning streak with them to Kansas City.
- TCU entered the weekend at No. 40 in the NCAA NET with the nation's 19th-most efficient defense, per KenPom.
- The Horned Frogs rank among the Big 12 leaders in blocks (3rd, 4.5), steals (3rd, 8.0) and turnovers forced (2nd, 14.2). They feed off that chaos, scoring an average of 14.2 fastbreak points (3rd).
- 6-8 forward Xavier Edmonds -- the nation's top-ranked JUCO recruit out of Salt Lake Community College -- earned third team All-Big 12 honors after averaging 12.8 points and a team-best 6.6 rebounds.
- 6-7 sophomore David Punch was an honorable mention all-conference pick, averaging a team-high 13.6 points and 6.6 rebounds. He finished the regular season ranked third on the Big 12 blocks chart (1.9).
- Guards Jayden Pierre (10.4 ppg) and Micah Robinson (10.6 ppg) round out a group of four-double figure scorers.
- Former Iowa guard Brock Harding (8.3 ppg) ranks among the Big 12 leaders in assists (4th, 5.9), A:TO ratio (4th, 2.98) and steals (5th, 1.8).
Â
A Cowboy win would....
- Move them into Thursday's quarterfinal round against No. 3 seed Kansas (8:30 p.m. CT) on either ESPN or ESPN2.
- Give them multiple Big 12 Tournament wins for the first time since their run to the 2021 final.
- Give them their first 20-win season since 2023.
- Avenge two last-second regular season losses to the Horned Frogs.
- Snap a five-game series losing streak to TCU and boost their all-time series lead over the Horned Frogs to 30-17 (1-1 in Big 12 Tournament games).
- Make Steve Lutz 10-1 in conference tournament games (2-1 with OSU).
- Clinch Lutz's fourth 20-win season in five years as a head coach.
- Give OSU its 39th 20-win season all-time.
- Make them 16-5 all-time in first/second round (pre-quarterfinal) Big 12 tourney matchups.
A Cowboy loss would....
- Eliminate them from the Big 12 Tournament.
- Give TCU a three-game regular season sweep.
- Narrow their all-time series lead over the Horned Frogs to 29-18 (0-2 in Big 12 Tournament play).
- Give the Frogs six straight series wins.
